History of EVP's

Electronic Voice Phenomena, most commonly referred to as "EVP" is said to be a technology to capture the "voices of the dead." As a spirit (which is energy based) it is said that through means of this energy, a spirit can interfere with other devices that rely upon an energy field to communicate with us here, such as a recorder.

EVP has been a science that as been studied for over 100 years now. It was first conducted as an experiment by Thomas Edison in the 1890s through a phonographic device he invented. Once again, in the 1920s, he tried again through another means and a chemical device. It has been said that the first voices were captured on the phonographic device in 1938, seven years after his death.

"If our personality survives, then it is strictly logical or scientific to assume that it retains memory, intellect, other faculties, and knowledge that we acquire on this Earth. Therefore ... if we can evolve an instrument so delicate as to be affected by our personality as it survives in the next life, such an instrument, when made available, ought to record something." - Thomas Edison

But the real father of EVP was Fredrich Jurgenson. One day he was recording birds singing on a tape recorder, but upon listening back on it he could hear human voices in the background, even though he was the only person around.

This began a new adventure for Jurgenson, where he began recording "nothing. " He would often get voices on his recorder, even some he recognized, like his mother who called him by his pet name. At first he thought he may have been recording voices from space, but upon further study and hearing his mother, he finally came to the conclusion that these voices were the voices of the dead.

And though EVPs are highly scrutinized and sometimes referred to as a fraud, unscientific or the like, they are still a way of hope for most of us and scientific based with a solid foundation for those of us who have experienced it first hand.
